On July 24, 2007 Mechanicsburg Fire & EMS experienced a death of their own. Firefighter Jon C. Trainer, 38, died in the line-of-duty. Firefighter Trainer returned to the firehouse after a working structure fire. He was replacing fire hose that they had used off the Engine, when he lost footing and fell off the top of the firetruck aprox. 10 feet onto the firehouse concrete floor. When he fell, he hit his head on the floor where he became unconcious with internal head trauma. Firefighters and Paramedics with Mechanicsburg began performing medical treatment on Firefighter Trainer, and called Med Flight. Med Flight deemed that Firefighter Trainers injuries was to sunificant to fly, so they decided to transport Firefighter Trainer to Urbana Mercy Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Firefighter Trainer began his fire career with Mechanicsburg Fire & EMS in December 2005. Firefighter Trainer loved every aspect of the fire service, and loved to help his community when they were inneed. Firefighter Trainer was a full-time associate at Honda in Marysville, Ohio.
